Helping nonprofit and philanthropy make a real impact in K-12 education

Making an impact in K-12 education often is a daunting challenge for nonprofits and philanthropy organizations, evidenced by the large number of local and state education change attempts combined with the little change that actually happens.

BH&A has successful experience helping nonprofits and philanthropic organizations and associations influence and lead the changes they want to see in education – from district improvements to statewide policies.

There are three phases to this work: Connect, Collaborate, Voice.

Connections

BH&A uses its unique experience, knowledge, and network  to determine how philanthropic or nonprofit organizations can best CONNECT to K-12 education.  Once BH&A helps identify the education area of interest of a nonprofit or philanthropy, BH&A develops strategies for change that range from   district level improvements to statewide policies.  Read about the Center for Digital Learning which Bill Hoffman & Assoc. worked with SRI to bring to Florida.

Collaboration

BH&A identifies the various organizations and issue leaders that need to be involved in the collaboration.  The purpose is to bring together various constituents, often with varying opinions and positions, and build consensus for the Connection Strategies.

Voice

BH&A helps give nonprofits and philanthropic organizations and associations a VOICE in K-12 education, which provides opportunities to promote increased student achievement and influence policy.  Developing a voice also is vital to sustaining these changes.  Read how Bill Hoffman & Assoc. helped a statewide group of local education funds engage over 1,000 board members to add their voice to Florida education policy.

Case Study

Florida Philanthropic Network (FPN) – Assisted the Education Affinity Funding Group (EAG)  on priorities such as higher student achievement standards, codifying a state-wide post-secondary attainment goal, and state supported post-secondary scholarships.

National Math and Science Initiative – Assisted in growing  college readiness and teacher training programs that provide dramatic increases in district AP performance.

SRI International – Assisted in the creation of the Center for Digital Learning in Florida.

Foundation for a Healthy St. Pete – Assisted in navigating educational programs that  impact community health.

Bill did a wonderful job focusing a diverse group of stakeholders while developing a common strategy through his experience.  His thorough research and delivery were above our expectations!

… if I can choose what I consider the most clear evidence of his (Bill’s) qualifications, it would be that he is an outstanding strategic thinker. Bill is not a micro manager; he is a man who sees the overall direction and thinks beyond the short term.
